Our region is growing and with that growth comes opportunity.
Over the next ten years, our region population is forecast to increase by 8.4%, bringing with it significant demand across the construction and trades sectors. Current projections suggest we will need around 2,500 new workers in construction alone.
Drilling down further, the need becomes even clearer:
More than 80 additional plumbers
Over 100 construction management roles
Around 200 carpenters
And up to 500 additional workers across trades such as electrical, engineering and related industries
Where will this workforce come from?
Connecting Students to Real Career Pathways
NE Tracks LLEN is proud to introduce The Tradies Toolbox Roadshow, coming to schools across the region in Term 3 of 2026.
This initiative is designed to introduce schools, students and industry by creating meaningful, real-world connections. Through an engaging, expo-style format, students will hear directly from local ‘tradies’ about what it’s really like to work in the industry. From apprenticeships to running a successful business, these conversations provide honest insight into the pathways, challenges and rewards of a career in the trades.
Why It Matters
For many students, choosing a career pathway can feel overwhelming particularly when it comes to understanding what different jobs involve.
The Tradies Toolbox Roadshow cuts through that uncertainty by giving students the chance to:
Ask real questions
Hear authentic stories
Explore a range of trade careers
Gain confidence in considering hands-on pathways
At the same time, it gives industry the opportunity to play an active role in shaping our regional, future workforce.
Calling Local Tradies
We’re inviting local tradies (and bring your apprentices too!) along with business owners to be part of this exciting initiative.
By sharing your story, you can inspire the next generation, showcase your industry, and help address the growing demand for skilled workers in our region.
The Roadshow is designed to be relaxed and engaging, featuring Q&A sessions, genuine conversations, and even a bacon and egg breakfast to kick things off!
Get Involved
If you’re passionate about your trade and want to give back to the next generation, we’d love to hear from you.
